Common Illness and Non-work-related Injury

The General Social Security Law empowers mutual societies to cover the temporary disability benefits derived from Non-Work Related Accidents and Diseases.

Key features

  • There is no additional cost for the company.
  • It is done through their own medical services.
  • We collaborate in monitoring and controlling Non-Work Related Accidents and Diseases, thus promoting better and faster recovery.
  • Workers with a temporary disability will be provided with medical tests and treatments when this is authorised by the Public Health Service at the patient's informed consent.
  • FREMAP is lawfully entitled to initiate the Permanent Disability Procedure, without having to wait for the end of the 545-day period.

Our Goal

The objective of FREMAP is to collaborate with the Social Security Institute in the medical monitoring and for a fast diagnosis, carrying out examinations and/or additional tests so that the medical treatment is applied immediately, thereby allowing the worker to return to work as soon as possible in full capacity.

How we do it

  • Receiving the leave in the shortest time possible.
  • Awareness of the right to the benefit.
  • Contacting the worker immediately.
  • Make an appointment with the patient as soon as possible in accordance with his/her condition.
  • Medical monitoring, carrying out examinations and additional tests.

In clinical session, the medical service of FREMAP will evaluate:

    • The performance of tests / treatments: they will be performed upon authorisation of the Public Health Service Practitioner and the patient's informed consent. The results of these tests and treatments will be made available to the Public Health Service doctor that attends to the worker.
    • Medical Discharge and Disability proposals: Act 35/2014, of 26 December, empowers our medical services to formulate proposals for medical discharge and/or permanent disability to the Inspectorate for Health which are simultaneously communicated to the worker and to the National Social Security Institute for their information.
    • Similarly, the Act foresees, that when the Health Inspectorate of the Public Health Service rejects the proposal for medical discharge formulated by the Mutual Society or it does not reply to the same one in the form and term established, the Mutual Society can request the issuance of the hospital discharge certificate from the National Social Security Institute.
